The Glider is the
basic building block for Game of Life object constructions. They are also the most common naturally occuring moving object,
and seventh most common overall. Because Gliders appear to move across the field, they can be timed and positioned to interact.
Most times, these interactions produce a seemingly random field consisting of a few common
simple objects. At times, though, these interactions can produces unusual objects. Additionally, Gliders can interact with
other objects, or portions of those objects, leading to new objects.
Research has been done in creating and cataloging these constructions. Most work in this area has been done by D.J.Buckingham and M.D.Niemiec, with contributions by several others.
